Gamblers Are 10xers
If an entrepreneur likes to play blackjack and poker, they’re probably a 10x operator!
I spent the last 4 days in Vegas for a work conference, and my theory couldn’t be more accurate.
After interviewing 60+ entrepreneurs for my show Beyond The Wealth and working with some of the top salespeople, I’ve noticed a direct correlation between entrepreneurs who like to gamble and those who don’t. Spoiler alert: the gamblers tend to outpace the non-gamblers.
This might be a hot take, but I’ve seen enough to believe it. If you disagree, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
There’s something about the challenge of beating the odds when they’re stacked against you that attracts real “winners.” Most people view it as mindless gambling, but in games like blackjack, poker, and craps, when you apply strategy, it becomes a battle between you and the casino.
This mindset directly applies to what’s needed to be a successful entrepreneur. In business, you’re going all in on something where the odds aren’t in your favor. You need to be a bit numb to the odds to fully commit because the stats aren’t on your side.
The best salespeople and business operators have one thing in common: a high risk tolerance. This trait separates the top performers from the rest. The ones who enjoy gambling often have this trait, which is why I see a direct correlation between gamblers and 10xers!
In sales, you have one choice: bet on yourself to make it happen. While you might have a decent salary, the real money is in the commission—especially in tech sales! These jobs come with inconsistent incomes and plenty of highs and lows, which is why the industry isn’t for everyone. You need to stomach some uncertainty to reap the benefits, and it all starts with handling risk.
The takeaway? If you have an appetite for risk and this resonates with you, you’re doing yourself a disservice if you’re not in sales or entrepreneurship—you’re made for it!
We’re keeping it light today after a few days off for work, but we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled program starting Monday!
