Complacency Is The Killer Of Success

Why is achieving a deep work or flow state so hard today?

I've been asking myself this for months as I try to break the bad habits blocking me from focusing on my work.

Over the last 4 months, I've felt the most disconnected from my day job, businesses, and personal life. I feel stuck in a cycle of doing just enough to get by.

I work at a top 10 company, built a podcast interviewing over 65 successful founders, and write a newsletter to over 2,500 people weekly. I'm 25, engaged to my best friend, and have been making six figures since college.

Most would consider this a huge success. But as I reflect, I see areas for improvement. Over the past 12 months, I cant help but notice I've achieved this with minimal effort.

I've fallen into the trap of mediocrity. While I’ve achieved success in many eyes, I’ve let myself down. My goals of building a community of entrepreneurs around the podcast, writing to over 10,000 people weekly, and doubling my W-2 income have not happened.

Why share these "failures"?

1. To impact a young entrepreneur realizing they need to work 10x harder.

2. To self-reflect and understand that these are only failures if I give up. I have 4 months left this year to get back on track and achieve my goals.

Complacency is the biggest killer of success. Recognizing and reacting to it is crucial. It's easy to do more than most and feel like you're working your hardest, but that’s not always the case.

Remember, someone is working 5x harder than you, and someone is working 10x harder than them. Push yourself constantly and unlock new heights.
