Difference Between Good And Great
Shiny object syndrome is your worst enemy!
One of the most talked-about traits that successful entrepreneurs master is overcoming shiny object syndrome. The ability to tune out the noise, identify a target, and go all in is much harder than it seems.
When you enter the world of online business or sales, you’ll quickly discover how many options there are.
In business, it might feel like there’s an endless stream of million-dollar ideas. You’ll be bombarded with content about the latest trends and ways people are making money from their laptops. It’s tempting to say, “f*** it” and try something new, but… Don’t do it!
In sales, it’s similar. You’ll encounter countless prospecting techniques, objection-handling methods, and sales cycle strategies from various leaders and mentors. It can be overwhelming.
What you do with all this information makes the difference between good and great. Good reps and operators will try everything and see some success. Great reps and operators will pick the nuggets that work for them, ignore the rest, and get 10x better by focusing on what truly works.
I’m writing this from a personal perspective because I’ve battled with shiny object syndrome more than most. I’ve owned three paid communities on Discord, a sneaker and clothing resale business, a podcast, a newsletter, a custom cigar startup, and probably some failures I’ve forgotten. Aside from being a crypto millionaire, a dropshipping guru, and a forex trader, I think I’ve tried everything else.
The main lesson I’ve learned from these experiences is simple: Don’t do it!
Yes, I’ve had successes, built multiple six-figure businesses, learned a ton, and made valuable connections. But the one thing I haven’t built is a long-lasting, sustainable business.
Almost every truly successful entrepreneur I’ve interviewed has either talked about this or attributed much of their success to overcoming it.
Lucky for you, you’ll see me navigate this as I play the long game with this podcast. I don’t expect real success until after 100+ episodes, and I’m perfectly okay with that. Trust the journey, take the gold nuggets it offers, and you’ll almost always succeed.
You just need to define what success looks like for you and be realistic about it!
