In the latest episode of Beyond the Wealth, I had the privilege of sitting down with Bobby Garofalis, co-founder of Prime Dental, a network of 12 dental practices (and counting). Bobby’s journey from humble beginnings to overseeing a thriving business empire offers powerful insights for entrepreneurs of all stages./

The Journey from Vision to Reality

Bobby’s story began in a Greek immigrant household, where hard work was a family tradition. Inspired by his parents' resilience, Bobby pursued dentistry, eventually meeting his wife and business partner, Alexandra. Together, they transformed a single dental practice into a thriving enterprise.

Their growth was driven by strategic decisions like balancing part-time work with building their first practice, reinvesting earnings into the business, and delaying personal luxuries to fund expansion. “It wasn’t scary because I knew I had my other job, but I also knew I couldn’t let this business fail,” Bobby recalled.

Expansion came through acquisitions and new locations, but challenges arose along the way. Misaligned partnerships, cash flow issues, and the complexities of managing a growing team forced Bobby to learn quickly and adapt. Today, with over 150 employees, Prime Dental reflects the power of vision and resilience.

Bobby’s journey hasn’t been without adversity. He credits his heart surgery in 2021 as a pivotal moment that reshaped his priorities. Forced to step away from clinical work, he leaned into leadership and operations, which drove significant business growth.

Through tough lessons—like the importance of strong operating agreements with partners—Bobby emphasizes preparation and clarity in all business relationships. He also highlights the role of mindset in navigating struggles: “I never believed we would fail, but I knew challenges would test us.”

Beyond business, Bobby’s dedication to fitness has been a cornerstone of his success. From hot yoga to weightlifting, he believes physical health enhances mental clarity and confidence, which translate directly into leadership.

Scaling Beyond Dentistry

Bobby and Alexandra’s entrepreneurial spirit has led them to expand beyond dentistry. From flipping oceanfront properties to launching a med spa franchise, they’ve diversified their portfolio while staying true to disciplined, calculated growth. “We’re always looking at what’s next, but we make sure we’re prepared for the ride,” Bobby shared.

Despite achieving multiple eight figures in revenue, Bobby remains focused on the journey. “The goalposts keep moving,” he said. “I try to stay present and grateful, but I’m always asking, ‘What else can we build?’”
